EMDR

EMDR therapy, short for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a powerful approach to treating trauma and helping people heal from the deep emotional wounds caused by traumatic experiences. Unlike traditional talk therapy, which often involves retelling and analyzing painful past events, EMDR therapy sessions use bilateral stimulation techniques—such as guided eye movement, tapping, or sound—to activate the brain’s natural ability to heal. This process helps reduce the emotional charge of distressing memories, allowing them to be reprocessed in a way that feels safer and more manageable.

Brainspotting gives the therapist access to both the brain and body by bypassing the conscious thinking processes of the neo-cortex to get to the deeper more emotional and body-based processes from the sub-cortex part of the brain. Using a point in space where the client holds their gaze, one can reprocess activating memories more quickly and effectively than standard talk therapy. Brainspotting can be the primary mode of treatment or it can be integrated with the other modalities.
